Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB)

Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is a public institution dedicated to higher education and research activities. UAB hosts 226 research groups, 57 departments, 45 institutes and centres and 5 hospitals with recognised international activity. UAB leads the production of Phd. thesis in Catalonia. It fosters innovation and the creation of start-ups and the knowledge transfer between the industry and the scientific environments working in close collaboration with companies and research groups, like in the Synchrotron Park of Barcelona. UAB is part of one of the more dynamic scientific and technological poles of the Mediterranean Europe.

 

UAB Education offer is wide being made of 105 official degrees in a wide set of areas from science, engineering and humanities. It also offers 141 master degrees where 8 of them are Erasmus Mundus. University community is made of more than 41,000 students, being 6,000 from abroad. We have more than 3,800 teachers and researchers. Research activity of UAB is recognised internationally with the following figures: 4,568 published papers (2018, Clarivate Analytics, WoS); 606 research collaboration agreements, 35 patent applications and 4 new companies in Parc de Recerca science park in UAB. Considering European projects belonging to Horizon 2020 programme, UAB is the sixth entity in relevance in Spain considering their sources of income. This has been more than 55 M€ in competitive calls for 44 international research projects. UAB is also engaged in the improvement of the human resources policies in alignment with the European Charter for Researchers and the code of conduct of processes of human resources has obtained the distinction "HR Excellence in Research".

The research team that participates in this project is composed of members of Computer Architecture and Operating Systems department and the Microelectronics and Electronic Systems department of the Engineering School of the UAB. The collaboration of these two departments combines the experience in the acceleration of bioinformatics applications and their analysis pipelines in HPC environments and the experience in the design and validation of electronic systems and FPGA systems in industrial environments.
